Margaret Ann BARBEAU

MARGARET ANN BARBEAU (Owen) October 6, 1936 - March 26, 2021 Margaret (Mardi, Margie) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love in Vancouver on March 26, 2021, at the age of 84. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jacques and her eldest brother David, Margaret is survived by her bother Philip and sister Daphne, children, Jean, Jacqueline, Monique (Rod), and Paul (Amanda), and by her sixteen grandchildren. Margaret was a proud British Columbian, as were her parents Walter and Jean Owen. Margaret attended York House School, was a proud and supportive alumnus, and work diligently and quietly over decades to support York House School and its alumni. After graduating high school, Margaret worked at The Province Newspaper, followed by a "grand tour" of Europe with her bother Philip. Upon her return to Vancouver, Margaret met the charming Jacques Barbeau. Jacques and Margaret were married in Vancouver, on April 12, 1958. Margaret and Jacques lived in Ottawa, Cambridge Massachusetts, and Toronto before returning to Vancouver with daughter Jean in tow. Not long after, Jacqueline arrived followed by the twins, Monique and Paul. Four children in three years with one Minor or a double stroller carrying the twins with two toddlers hanging on, the only modes of transportation, Margaret got a full dose of "Motherhood" from the get-go: a role at which she excelled. Margaret spent her summers as a youth, at the family cabin on Shawinigan Lake, and on almost a year round basis thereafter, with her own family, down at Point Roberts, Washington. While at "The Point", she enjoyed gardening, playing cards, knitting, looking after the various dogs and cats, and of course, spending time with and nurturing her children and grandchildren. In recent years, Margaret battled dementia with grace and courage. Margaret's family would like to acknowledge the excellent care she received from her care providers and medical professionals who assisted her over the years. In particular, Margaret's children extend a special thank you to Marvin, Rose and Mary Ann (her "Hosmer" personal caregivers), all of whom cared for her, as if she was their Mom. Given this time of Covid restrictions, no funeral will be held. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at a later date.
