Douglas Joseph JAFFRAY obituary (theglobeandmail)

Douglas Joseph JAFFRAY

DOUGLAS JOSEPH JAFFRAY On December 12, 2020, after a short illness in his 82nd year. Loving husband of Heather McCann for 33 years, devoted father to Paul (Joan), Heather (Paul Anderson) and Justin. Proud Grandpa to Patrick, Sean and Colin Anderson. Son of the late Margaret Marie Walker and the late Harry Thomson Jaffray, Doug was also predeceased by his sister Elvira Muriel Kerwin and his brother Harry Alexander Jaffray. Doug leaves behind family and close friends in Toronto, Muskoka, Vancouver, Arizona and England. Doug acquired Vanbots Construction in 1982 and made it a well known name in the automotive industry. Throughout his career, he built many lasting friendships. At the age of 55 he moved on to what was his proudest accomplishment: the unstoppable pursuit of his passions. Doug was an avid traveller and spent many years captaining first Joya then Seaesta in Florida and the Bahamas. He spent happy times in Scottsdale with his Crossroads guys planning his next trip. He travelled to Machu Picchu, Prague, Costa Rica, Italy and many other places where he indulged his love of history and food in the company of his family and friends. He drove his 1930 Ford Model A pickup every chance he got and walked his 10,000 steps as if it was his mission. A lifelong lover of aviation, in his 70's Doug revived his pilot's license and set off in his plane for many adventures to Florida, Arizona, Oshkosh and all places in between. A perfect evening for him was to have a nice steak dinner, then go fly a few circuits around Parry Sound or over Lake Joseph, checking out the cottage from his favourite vantage point. Few people enjoy their retirement as much as Doug did. We will never know a kinder, more loving man and we will miss you. A gathering celebrating Doug's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to COPA for Kids, dedicated to introducing Canadian youth to the world of general aviation.
