Lotte (Kapp) MERKT (1923 - 2020)

Lotte Merkt passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020. Lotte was born on December 14, 1923, to Karl and Anna Kapp in Kornwestheim, Germany. Lotte met her husband Erwin Joseph Merkt, and they were married in December 1949 in Kornwestheim, Germany. Lotte and Erwin immigrated to Canada in 1952, where they began their life in Canada, first living in Ottawa, then moving to Toronto and settling in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Together they raised four children: Rose, Erwin, Frank and Siegfried. Lotte enjoyed gardening, and when she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she enjoyed time with her family, namely her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her summers at her cottage near Belwood Lake. Lotte is survived by sons Erwin Karl Merkt, Frank Merkt (Melanie) and Siegfried Merkt (Mary Jane), her nine grandchildren: Courtney, Jenny, Kyle, Hailey, Chelsey, Avery, Alicia, Justin, Katelynn, and 16 great grandchildren. Lotte was preceded in death by her husband Erwin Joseph Merkt and daughter Rose O'Neill (Merkt). Lotte's family will hold a small service at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900) on Friday, December 18, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. Please note: In accordance with the regulations of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, due to COVID-19, all visitations, funerals and interments are restricted to a specified number of attendees. All visitors are required to wear a mask or face covering, provide name and telephone number to funeral home staff, and must practice social distancing at all times.
