Mary Margaret IRVINE

MARY MARGARET IRVINE "Marg" It is with profound sadness that the family of Mary Margaret (Marg) Irvine (née Hodgson) announces her death on December 5, 2020, at the age of 93. She is survived by her husband, Ken Irvine (age 96). Marg will be greatly missed by her seven children - Diane (Phil) Davis, Ron Irvine, Linda (Dan Benor) Irvine, Caroline (Doug) Somers, Doug Irvine, Nancy (Dave) Campbell and Janet (Sheldon) Toner; her nineteen grandchildren - Heather Davis, Alison Davis, Marcy Davis, Neil Irvine, Michelle Irvine, Emily Irvine, Paul Irvine, Alex Irvine, Rachel Berry, Jenna Sapiano, Andrew Sapiano, Mathew Sapiano, Caitlin Wright, Michael Somers, Scott Campbell, Erin Campbell, Meghan Loach, Sebastian Toner and Ben Toner; and her six great-grandchildren - Violet and Arthur Berry, Isla and Owen Sapiano, Claire Bekolay, and Morgan Wylie. Marg was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister and a friend to many. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially treasured the annual family party in Kingston around her birthday weekend in July each year. She loved spending time swimming and skiing with her extended family at their various homes - Kingston, chalet or Florida. One of her goals was to make sure that all the grandchildren could swim, and she gave each grandchild $25 for swimming 100 "Grampa step" yards. She strongly believed in spending and saving money wisely, ensuring that all children and grandchildren had enough money for education. Marg was born in Essex, Ontario. She grew up with her parents, Edna (Brown) and Earl Hodgson; sister, Janet; brother, Harry; and Grandmother Mary (Shore) Brown in Chatham, Ontario. She graduated from University of Toronto in 1949 and moved to Montreal to complete her hospital dietetics at the Royal Vic Hospital. She met her husband, Ken, on a blind date in Toronto and later connected again in Montreal while they were both starting their professional careers. In their first summer of dating, they loved taking long walks and enjoying concerts on Mount Royal. They were married for 70 years in June of this year. Marg also spent many years volunteering and was president for Canadian Federation of University Women, Kingston Club. A big thank you to all the staff at the Courtyards on Eagleson for all their care and compassion.
