DANIEL EDWARD SHORT CPA (1949 - 2021)

SHORT, CPA, DANIEL EDWARD October 24, 1949 - March 28,2021 Dan died peacefully from complications of liver cancer, after a short illness. He is survived by the love of his life, wife Maureen, daughter Kourtney, sons Darryl (Kristen) and Jeremy (Ellin) and grandchildren Miles, Charlie, Connor, Rowan, Lilah and Emmy. He was predeceased by his brothers Frank, Fred and Gary and survived by his brother Barry and sister Leonore. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews who always had a fun "Uncle Danny" story or two. Dan was a gifted accountant with a deep love of numbers and unusually a true passion for taxes. His ability to solve and find joy in problems and spreadsheets was both an asset to him professionally and a great source of amusement to his family. Dan was well-loved by both clients and friends (one often becoming the other). He was proud of his ability to mentor all those who needed guidance, whether it was for personal reasons or in conjunction with work. He loved helping all those in need. And it was always done with that big smile of his that lit up the room and you just knew you were in great hands... He was known for his affinity for eccentric hats and "sharp" accessories. It was especially fun for what we all called his "harem" to participate in seeking out a new hat or two for Dan to wear while on vacation. It was indeed a highlight of every trip. An avid sports fan, he had a photographic memory and an endless appetite for trivia and of all things gourmet cooking. He was endlessly proud of his children and delighted in their personal and professional successes. And he so loved his six grandchildren and watching them grow up over time. Dan's cremains will be travelling when it is safe to do so to some of the places he loved most: to Collingwood-Thornbury, Ontario, where he vacationed with his children; to Las Vegas, where he and Moe shared many happy memories; to Boston, where he enjoyed the Boston trifecta of Boston Clam Chowder, Boston Cream Pie and Sam Adams lager and so many dear friends; to California, where his son Jeremy and family live; to the Niagara Falls, NY/Ontario area, where he loved the Falls, and last but not least Toronto, Ontario, where he was born. It will be a fun journey filled with so many wonderful memories. Cremation has already taken place arrangements by Chapel Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Markham, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hill House Hospice, Richmond Hill, Ontario where the nurses and staff took such excellent care of Dan during the last days of his life. www.hillhousehospice.com A celebration of Dan's life will take place when it is safe to do so, probably sometime in the fall.
