Alan Arthur Truefitt QUERNEY

ALAN ARTHUR TRUEFITT QUERNEY Alan Querney passed away at 91 years of age on March 27, 2021 after battling cancer. Alan is survived by his wife of 10 years, Rhea, and predeceased by Shirley his first wife of 48 years. Alan will be lovingly remembered by his children Thomas (Charmaine), John (Danielle), Susan Koutsoukis (Nick), Bill (Michelle); his grandchildren Jennifer, Jill, Alan, Demitri, Alexander, Kea, Aristo, Paige; and his great-grandson Ethan. Alan will be fondly remembered by his stepchildren Robert, Richard, Peter and Laura (predeceased). Alan was the son of Ernest and Marjorie and a loving brother to sisters Norma, Carol and Gail (predeceased). Alan was born in Toronto and moved to Sudbury with his family at an early age. He graduated from Western University in Business and obtained his chartered accounting designation while articling with Clarkson & Gordon. Alan and Shirley married in 1954 in London, initially resided in Toronto, and returned to Sudbury to raise their family. Alan worked in Bill Plaunt's lumber business and applied his entrepreneurial skills as President of Muirheads. Alan was an active community volunteer where he assumed leadership roles with St. Andrew's United Church and Place, Laurentian and Huntington Universities, the former Sudbury and District Hospital Council, the Idylwylde Golf Club and other non-profit organizations. At retirement, Alan and Shirley wintered in Florida and enjoyed social outings after their rounds of golf. Alan maintained a downtown Sudbury office during his retirement years where he conducted many coffee meetings with his lifelong friends, kept an eye on his children's business activities, and applied his 'day trading' investment skills. Alan was a humble recipient of a Rotary Club Paul Harris and honourary degrees from Huntington and Laurentian Universities. In 1999, he was awarded a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. Alan married Rhea Ryan in July 2011. They were an active couple for many years spending winters in Florida, golfing, playing bridge, and enjoying the company of friends and family in Sudbury. In his earlier years, Alan was also an avid curler and outdoorsman. Time spent on Lake Manitou at Crang's camp was especially enjoyable. In his later years, he took an active interest in the academic, sports, and work activities of his grandchildren. He was very proud of their accomplishments. The family extends a warm thank you to Dr. Olsten for her attentive care and the healthcare professionals at City of Lakes, Health Sciences North, and the Northeast Cancer Centre. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family memorial service will be held in the R. J.
