M. CAMPBELL DOBBIN November 26, 2020 Murray Campbell 'Cam' Dobbin passed away on November 26, 2020, just 4 days shy of his 93rd birthday, from complications of an aneurysm. Predeceased by his brother Pat, his son Peter, and his beloved wife of over 68 years, Dolly. He leaves his children Gordon (Janice) and Charlie (Elliot), his grandchildren Chloe (Chris), Sydney, and Keenan. Cam spent his first 10 years in Toronto before his family moved to Kapuskasing, ON. He graduated from St. Andrews College in Aurora and went on to study medicine at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1952. His summer job took him to Kenora, ON where he met his future wife, Dolly. They married in 1951, and remained deeply in love until Dolly's passing in 2019. Game for adventure, Cam and Dolly moved to Elsa in the Yukon Territory where Cam cared for the community for 5 years and then on to Philadephia, PA to complete a residency in ophthalmology. They returned to Toronto where Cam ran a private and surgical practice at the Toronto East General Hospital until his retirement. His contributions during his career, earned him a lifetime membership in the Ontario Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association. Cam was most relaxed at his island cottage on Lake Temagami. Earning his pilot's license during the 1960s allowed him to fly there and avoid the highway traffic. It was not unusual for Cam to buzz the St. Andrews College Chapel steeple on his way up to Temagami. An early embracer of technology, Cam built a ham radio while living in the Yukon, and in the 1970s built his own computer and taught himself to code and program. Cam wrote computer software to manage patient admin in his office and eventually patented and leased his program to other physicians. Cam was a true Renaissance man who loved to learn, but his greatest love was for his wife Dolly. Cam will be missed by all who knew him. A big thank you to the staff at Delmanor Northtown for providing a warm and family-like atmosphere for Cam for the last 4 years. A private family celebration of life will be held in the spring.
